What Is Blogrectory?

Blogrectory brings the web directory in to the web 2.0 age by providing a blog based platform for businesses to promote themselves.

Currently web directories have rigid categories and are in limited in the space that they provide to businesses. Often they are expensive when there is only a tiny cost associated with each additional business that lists. Many of them perform poorly in the search engines. Some of them are little better than paper directories transferred on to the internet.

Blogrectory.org.uk was started with the intention of acknowledging the impact of social media and blogging on the internet and melding their impact on to the web directory. We wanted to encourage interaction and immediacy. Our aims where that:

  • Both business and consumers could post
  • Posting would be free.
  • There would be minimal restrictions about what could be said and how many words could be used.
  • There would be no limit on the number of posts that a business could make.
  • The site would integrate with Twitter
  • Posts would have a review section where reviews about the business could be made.
  • The site would be built in a search engine friendly way.
  • Links to businesses websites would be direct enabling them to gain a full search engine optimisation benefit.

The problem was what to call it all. Originally we settled on Best Buy Reviews as it was a chance for businesses to promote themselves and shout about we they were so good. In addition consumers would have the opportunity to comment on and review the businesses concerned.

After much ruminating we found what we ffel to be is a much better name. We have settled on the name Blogrectory as it describes what the site is about in one word. We are using the concept of blogging to bring the web directory in to the 21st century.

So now you know why we are called Blogrectory, what are you waiting for? Why not join in and post your very own contribution to Blogrectory.
